Emerald Ash Borer

To report an infestation, contact the Ohio Department of Agriculture's EAB hotline, (888) OHIO-EAB.

Ohio State University scientists - in collaboration with colleagues from other universities and federal agencies - are leading groundbreaking research projects aimed both at protecting trees from emerald ash borer (EAB) now and dealing with the effects of this pest in the future.

Research projects focus on testing existing and experimental insecticides that can be used by homeowners and municipalities to protect high-value ash trees; creating EAB spread-rate models to allow communities to more accurately forecast, and proactively prepare for, the arrival of this pest; analyzing the environmental impact of EAB on forest ecosystems; and developing a resistant ash tree that can be used for long-term reforestation and preservation of native ash.
